What is marble and why do we love it so much? Mar $What is marble and why do we love it so much? Marble is the result of carbonate minerals in sedimentary rocks recrystalising thanks to pressure and high temperature. There are various types of marble, with the most well known coming from Italy - Carrara and Calacatta, and are considered to be the most luxurious varieties. Historically, only white marble was used due to the lack of impurities inside but nowadays we love all the variations available. White veined marble is probably one of the most copied stones there is. We all love the vein details, whether subtle and light or bold and full of patterning. Porcelain is often used as a way of creating stunning replicas and also ensures that you can have regular sets of details, so you know what you'll be getting. There is one characteristic about marble that can't be replicated and that is it's low refractive index which allows light to permeate the stone before being reflected, thus giving it a certain brightness. In fact, the word marble comes from the Greek word Marmaros which means 'shining stone'. Overall, we all love marble for it's unique and individual patterning, the touch of it and the fact that it's timeless, elegant and looks amazing!
