Worktop Joints

THE GORILLA GRIP

A majority of large kitchen worktops or surfaces will require a join somewhere. To ensure a professional join, we use the best tool available – the Gorilla Grip.

The Gorilla Grip provides fast and powerful clamping of worktops and surfaces. The tool consists of two vacuum clamp halves with precision guide rods and an electric motor that provides a reliable, consistent and powerful clamping/suction of the clamp pods to the surface.

THE PROCESS

Before we start the process, it’s important to match the two worktops together. In addition to the Gorilla Grip, the process also requires the use of an epoxy glue and a hardener. An epoxy is a two-part adhesive that forms when you mix epoxy resin and hardener. Other tools such as a palette knife, spatula, hammer and chisel are also required.

When the epoxy glue is mixed with the hardener – we need to move quickly as the glue hardens pretty quickly. Both sides of the the clean worktops are coated with the glue. The worktops are aligned together and now it’s the Gorilla Grips turn to work its powerful vacuum suction magic…

The two clamp halves are aligned with precision steel guide rods. These rods are anchored on one side and slide into bronze sleeves on the other side. The rollers draw the clamps nice and tight, ensuring a professional join.

The seam is left to dry before sanding and finishing by hand. Another professional job done by LBS Stone, West Sussex!
