MORE ABOUT OUR PORCELAIN WORKTOPS & SPLASHBACKS

What are porcelain worktops and why choose them?

Porcelain countertops are a form of premium ceramic made from natural ingredients including fine clay, Feldspar and quartz. These are combined with dyes and baked at very high temperatures, around 1400 degrees centigrade, to create strong and dense porcelain in various styles. The material is produced in a variety of thicknesses for different applications, for example thin 4mm sheets can be used for cladding walls and furniture while thicker 20mm slabs are used for worktops.

Key benefits of porcelain countertops:

  • Very hard and unlikely to crack, chip or be scuffed even with frequent use
  • Impervious to moisture and therefore stain repellent
  • Hygienic and easy to clean, without the need for sealant
  • Resistant to changes in temperature including high heat and frost
  • Can be used outdoors and won’t fade when exposed to UV rays
  • Countless surface effects and colours, with matte, gloss or silk finishes
  • Suitable for kitchen worktops, bathrooms, wall cladding, flooring and more

LBS Stone can fabricate and supply porcelain worktops from a multitude of brands, but these are some of the most popular brands we offer:

  • Dekton – Possibly the best-known type of porcelain worktop material, Dekton is manufactured by Cosentino in Spain. It is offered in 60 different styles including stone, metal and wood effects, and is a carbon neutral product. Dense and highly compact, Dekton is very robust with a rating of 7 on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness. That’s around the same as natural granite, but with much lower porosity.
  • Caesarstone porcelainCaesarstone have been creating stylish and functional work surfaces since 1987. Experts in quartz, they now also produce chic porcelain worktops in various striking colours and patterns, including metallic veined designs. Better yet, they are reinforced with fibreglass-mesh backing for maximum strength.
  • Uniceramica – Part of the long-standing Brachot brand, Uniceramica porcelain countertops are designed to replicate the look and feel of natural stone. With that in mind, they offer authentic limestone, marble, granite, basalt and travertine styles. Each is available in matte, polished or velvet finishes, and a range of neutral tones.
  • XTONE – Specialising in large format surfaces, XTONE by Porcelanosa offer fluid porcelain worktop designs. Explore grained, crystalline and veined styles designed to mimic natural materials, or opt for a contemporary cement-like look. You can also tailor the edge finish as preferred.
  • Neolith – Made with 98% recycled materials, all of which are naturally derived, Neolith sintered stone worktops are durable, hygienic and recyclable. Their range includes natural stone, industrial, iron, steel and timber designs to suit different types of décor. Each of which come with a 25 year warranty for peace of mind.

Porcelain worktops for kitchen units and islands are the most popular application for this luxury material. However, we can also produce durable kitchen splashbacks, wall cladding and flooring in matching or contrasting styles upon request. Not to mention bespoke porcelain countertops to complete your bathroom vanity unit, windowsills, tabletops and more.

Sintered stone and porcelain worktops are the same material. However, whilst porcelain is technically a form of ceramic, it is much denser and stronger than other ceramics. This is due to its more refined ingredients and the much higher firing temperature used to produce it. This in turn makes for high performing, stain and scratch resistant porcelain kitchen countertops. Meanwhile, ceramic surfaces are generally more susceptible to chips, cracks and are slightly less robust.

Unlike natural stone, they do not need to be sealed, won’t absorb liquids and resist staining well. As such, you can just wipe them down with a clean cloth and mild detergent as needed. And the surface should remain in excellent condition for years to come!
